Case Study: Flooders Gallery
The Project
Flooders Gallery relies heavily on their website in order to spread the word about their fantastic and unique gallery which is located in the remote highlands of Scotland. The client already had a website which was extremely difficult to navigate and didn't show the true passion and attention to detail this fine sculptor has. The clients main requirements were:
- A colour scheme relevant to the products produced
- Simple Navigation
- A site that is easily found
- Valid, accessible markup
- Lots of Good high quality images
- Optimised for search terms such as "burr wood tables"
The Solution
After a personal consultation with the client we picked out a colour scheme that was relevant to the warm rich colours of the burr wood. We sifted through the numerous pages of the old website and extracted the text that could be slightly reworked and planned out the pages. We decided to use image maps to demonstrate the high detail on the hand crafted bowls of fruit, giving users the ability to click on each item of fruit and see it close up.
Technologies Used
- xhtml
- css
- Javascript
- some php
The Result
The resulting site shows the warmth and passion of both the gallery and the sculptor. It is easy to find what you are looking for and gives users a chance to see some of the beautiful works of art that are on display in this very unique gallery.
The site also manages to stay high on the first page in google searches for several of the key search terms, e.g. "burr wood tables", "burr wood furniture".
